Gaya, June 6 (NationPress) Lalan Choudhary, a resident of Bihar’s Nalanda district, is receiving complimentary medical treatment at Magadh Medical College in Gaya, thanks to the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
Describing his experience with the hospital's services, he mentioned that all his health needs are being adequately addressed by the hospital staff.
“I am provided with food, medications, and everything else. I haven’t spent a single rupee,” he expressed, extending his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating this welfare scheme.
Choudhary emphasized that the underprivileged are the primary beneficiaries of this initiative, as they belong to the most impoverished segments of society.
Using his situation as an example, he pointed out that the government allocates Rs 5 lakh to each family, questioning, “Where would we find such funds if not for the government’s assistance?”
Another beneficiary, Kanch Kumari, shared her story: “I had difficulties walking and sitting due to leg issues. Today marks my 12th day in the hospital, and they have not charged me anything; it’s all complimentary.”
“This treatment is covered under the Ayushman Card, which I obtained six months ago,” she added, expressing her appreciation for the government.
Dr. Rajaram Prasad, the Chief Surgeon of Gaya district, highlighted the impact of the scheme in the area: “Since its inception in 2018, we have issued Ayushman Bharat cards to thousands. In the 2024-25 period, 18,734 individuals received treatment in government hospitals, costing approximately Rs 15 crore.”
“From 2018 until now, 38,424 patients have been treated, with an expenditure of Rs 38.62 crore. Previously, individuals had to sell their land and mortgage properties to cover medical costs, but Ayushman Bharat has transformed this scenario,” he elaborated.
Currently, there are 43 hospitals in Gaya district participating in the Ayushman Bharat scheme, comprising 16 private and 27 government facilities.
