Hyderabad, April 22 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has announced that the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards will take place on June 14.
During the curtain-raiser event, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized the government's commitment to promoting both Telugu and Urdu cinema.
The formal initiation of the jury evaluation process coincides with this ceremony, marking the commencement of the awards named after the renowned revolutionary poet and balladeer Gaddar, who passed away in 2023.
Last year, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy declared the revival of the Nandi awards in honor of Gaddar.
These awards are reintroduced after a hiatus of 14 years.
The government's initiative aims to recognize and promote cinematic excellence, celebrate Telangana's rich cultural identity, and support the creative community.
The curtain-raiser ceremony was attended by State Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Telangana Film Development Corporation (TGFDC) Chairman Dil Raju, and veteran actress Jayasudha, who chairs the jury.
The official entries and nominations included 76 film submissions and 1,172 individual applications, ceremoniously handed over to jury chairperson Jayasudha.
This symbolic handover signifies the start of the jury's thorough review and selection process to recognize and award the most exceptional cinematic achievements from Telangana across various categories, including feature films, documentaries, technical excellence, and special performances.
The Gaddar Telangana Film Awards (GTFA) aims to honor and celebrate the cinematic talent of Telugu filmmakers and artists over the last decade.
This event will mark the first official state-level film awards since Telangana's establishment, concluding a long absence since the last Nandi Awards were held in 2011 in the previous united Andhra Pradesh.
In August last year, the state government formed a committee led by acclaimed filmmaker B. Narsing Rao to establish the awards' guidelines.
Last month, the government tasked the Telangana Film Development Corporation with hosting this prestigious event.
Applications were solicited for films certified by the Censor Board in 2024, covering 11 dynamic categories, including Feature Films (Telugu and Urdu), National Integration Films, Children's Films, Environmental, Heritage and Historical Films, Debut Directors, Comprehensive Entertainers, Animation, VFX, Documentaries, Short Films Best Performances, and Technical Excellence.
A total of 76 film submissions and 1,172 individual nominations were received.
According to an order dated April 11, a 15-member jury was constituted, chaired by Jayasudha, to guarantee a fair and distinguished selection process.
The ceremony will also honor legendary figures in Indian cinema with special lifetime achievement awards.
Additionally, awards such as the NTR National Film Award, Paidi Jairaj Film Award, B.N. Reddy Film Award, Nagi Reddy and Chakrapani Film Award, Kantha Rao Film Award, and Raghupathi Venkaiah Film Award will be presented.
The awards will recognize one outstanding Telugu film each year certified from 2014 to 2023, celebrating a decade of cinematic milestones.
