Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal, labeling it as anti-Constitutional. He pledged to reinstate the voting rights for individuals whose names were unjustly eliminated from the electoral lists in the state.
During his second campaign rally in the Chanchal area of Malda district, LoP Rahul Gandhi asserted that the BJP and RSS are attempting to undermine the Constitution, a framework that B.R. Ambedkar devoted his life to establishing.
"Today marks the birth anniversary of Ambedkar ji, who dedicated his existence to forging our nation’s Constitution. He advocated for unity, brotherhood, and democracy. In contrast, the BJP, RSS, and Narendra Modi are seeking to dismantle this very Constitution," he stated.
"What has transpired under the guise of SIR, leading to the removal of your names, is a direct violation of the Constitution. However, there is no need for concern. Once Congress returns to power, we will ensure these individuals regain their voter status. The BJP deceives the populace and employs unethical strategies to achieve electoral success," claimed LoP Gandhi.
Currently, approximately 90,83,345 individuals in West Bengal are facing the loss of their voting rights, beginning with the initiation of SIR and continuing through the judicial review process. This figure encompasses those with unresolved cases at Appellate Tribunals.
Given that the voters' list is presently frozen, cases pending at Appellate Tribunals will be treated as deleted for the time being, thus preventing these individuals from voting in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that only the Congress party possesses the capability to contest and challenge the BJP, dismissing the Trinamool Congress as ineffective.
"My dear brothers and sisters, remember this: the Trinamool Congress cannot rival the BJP. If any party can confront the BJP and emerge victorious, it is the Congress. What you are experiencing due to SIR and the theft of votes cannot be halted by the Trinamool Congress," he remarked.
"The Trinamool Congress is powerless to prevent the BJP's injustices and violence against the citizens, both in this state and nationwide. Only the Congress can put an end to this," he added.
"The BJP is acutely aware that the Trinamool Congress is incapable of defeating it. They recognize that only the Congress can unseat them and reclaim power. They know there is one individual who will remain steadfast, unafraid, and prepared to make sacrifices—that person is me," stated Rahul Gandhi.
Later in the day, LoP Gandhi is scheduled to host his third campaign rally in Bengal's Murshidabad district.
