Rahul Gandhi Critiques PM Modi's Foreign Policy, Will Miss All-Party Meeting
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, asserting that India’s foreign policy has become "compromised" and is dictated by personal interests rather than the nation’s well-being.
Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of transforming the country’s foreign policy into his "personal foreign policy" and expressed concerns that its standing on the global stage has diminished. He noted that international leaders, including US President Donald Trump, recognize the limitations of Modi’s decision-making.
“If the Prime Minister is compromised, then our foreign policy is also compromised. This is clear, and everyone can see it,” Gandhi stated to reporters outside Parliament.
He condemned the government for its recent international activities, claiming that Modi has not provided a coherent position in Parliament.
“His speech yesterday was irrelevant. As India’s Prime Minister, his position should reflect that. There is no clear stance whatsoever,” Gandhi remarked, cautioning that the fallout from such policies will impact the public.
He further warned of increasing economic pressures in the near future, which would affect essential goods. “Regrettably, people will face hardships. This is merely the start. Challenges will arise concerning LPG, petrol, fertilizers—everything,” he said.
In reference to Modi's comments about a potential "Covid-like" scenario, Gandhi criticized the government's pandemic management. “They have forgotten their actions during Covid. How many lives were lost? They lack comprehension,” he added.
Regarding the all-party meeting set for Wednesday at 5 p.m., Gandhi mentioned he would not be attending due to a prior commitment in Kerala. Nevertheless, he appreciated the effort for wider dialogue.
“It’s commendable that an all-party meeting is being convened—discussions are necessary. However, a structural error has been made. The entire framework has been dismantled. Now rectifying this will take a significant amount of time,” he stated.
In a strongly worded accusation, Gandhi claimed that the Prime Minister's decisions are swayed by foreign influences. “I can provide this in writing—PM Modi will comply with whatever the United States and Israel request. He cannot make decisions in India’s favor. They will not act in the farmers' interests,” he asserted.
Earlier, Gandhi reiterated his criticisms on X, stating, “Today, the country’s foreign policy is compromised because the Prime Minister himself is compromised. Modi only acts according to what the United States and Israel desire. He can never make decisions in the interest of India—and this is glaringly evident,” he tweeted.
