Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 19 (NationPress) An unexpected 30-minute discussion between senior Congress figure Rahul Gandhi and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor at 10 Janpath, Delhi, seems to have mitigated internal conflicts within the party in Kerala.

Sources indicate that the meeting, which took place on Tuesday evening, helped to alleviate tensions, with further discussions anticipated to address Tharoor's issues.

After their meeting, both Rahul and Tharoor exited through a side entrance, leaving AICC General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal to update the press, who characterized the encounter as a “calm” event.

Tharoor, who has served as an MP for four terms, has recently voiced his dissatisfaction regarding his treatment by the party hierarchy and the Congress leadership in Kerala.

Last week, the situation escalated when Tharoor, in an article for a prominent English newspaper, not only praised the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left government but also acknowledged Prime Minister Modi's visit to the US.

These comments ignited a political uproar in Kerala, leading to criticism from within his party while simultaneously garnering accolades from the ruling CPI(M). Chief Minister Vijayan quickly seized the opportunity to promote Tharoor's remarks as a boost to his government’s reputation.

The backlash against Tharoor intensified over the weekend, with party members launching both direct and indirect criticisms. Nonetheless, political analysts suggest that although Tharoor does not conform to the typical Kerala Congress leader's profile—who usually engages closely with local voters—he has developed a distinct appeal.

“While his absence from grassroots political activities is a setback, he compensates with calculated strategies, making him popular among those who are not politically active,” remarked a media analyst who preferred to remain unnamed.

The analyst also noted that the Delhi meeting should have occurred earlier, as Tharoor is an invaluable asset to any political party, evidenced by his four consecutive electoral victories.
