New Delhi, July 1 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Delhi Police successfully dismantled a criminal syndicate in the national capital, apprehending eight individuals who impersonated law enforcement officers to carry out a robbery in the Laxmi Nagar area.
The police seized numerous incriminating items, including laptops, mobile phones, vehicles, and cash that had been stolen during the operation.
This group masqueraded as members of the Special Staff Unit of the Delhi Police and executed a raid on an insurance office in Laxmi Nagar.
Their arrest followed a complaint filed by a victim named Salman, prompting police to initiate an investigation. Authorities reviewed CCTV footage and conducted surveillance to identify the suspects.
Reports indicate that four suspects posing as officers from the Special Staff Unit entered Salman’s office, stealing his mobile phone and laptop.
They subsequently abducted him in a Hyundai Venue, physically assaulted him, and extorted a total of Rs 1.5 lakh, including Rs 70,000 transferred to an account, under the threat of fabricating an insurance fraud case against him.
Acting on reliable technical intelligence, a police team apprehended five fleeing suspects the next day on Noida Link Road while they were in the stolen Hyundai Venue.
In a coordinated effort, three additional suspects were arrested from various locations across Delhi by the Special Staff/East District and PS Laxmi Nagar.
During questioning, it emerged that one of the accused, Hunny Kumar, a former employee of the victim, had leaked crucial information to the main perpetrator, Sunny Sharma, who organized the robbery. Sunny had previously been implicated in a cyber fraud case in Ghaziabad.
Hunny Kumar also shared that he held grievances against his ex-employer, which led him to conspire with others to commit the robbery.
This gang exploited the guise of police officers to intimidate their victim and extract money, falsely threatening to involve him in a bogus insurance fraud scheme.
The East District Police have cautioned the public to remain vigilant and verify the credentials of anyone claiming to be a police officer, particularly in professional or residential settings.
