She stated: "We have dedicated the last 15–18 years to our cause. With my father by our side this time, we feel fortified."
In a conversation with IANS, Geeta remarked that during the previous two elections, her father Arun Gawli was not present, but his involvement this time has instilled her with significant assurance as they prepare for the BMC elections scheduled for January 15.
"He (Arun Gawli) was with us during the nomination process. We were thrilled," she added.
Geeta highlighted that her years of dedication have fostered her self-confidence.
"We are connected with the community like family. Numerous issues concern the public in these upcoming BMC elections. While our political party utilizes its funds for various initiatives, our primary focus will be on public health and education. Additionally, we aim to assist the homeless," she explained.
Regarding her father, Geeta commented: "Papa is akin to Robin Hood. His contributions are recognized throughout the country. He has accomplished commendable work, which is why he is held in high regard."
She reflected on her political path: "Initially, I was recognized as my father's daughter. However, I gradually carved out my own identity. When my father was an MLA, I contested a seat reserved for a woman legislator in 2007, marking the start of my political journey."
Geeta confessed that her confidence was initially lacking and she felt timid, but she eventually cultivated self-belief.
"My father's reputation earns me additional respect. I have never perceived it negatively. We missed him during his incarceration; the family felt incomplete, but now it is whole again," she noted.
She further asserted that she does not perceive any formidable political adversaries.
"Should any rivals emerge, we are prepared to confront them. Our connection with the populace spans years. I have their support, and we will not make compromises with anyone. We will contest under my father's party banner," she stated.
On her father Arun Gawli's release from prison, Geeta expressed: "We maintained hope for his return. Although he came out later than expected, we are now overjoyed."
She also mentioned her sister, who has been active in politics at the ward level and possesses political experience.
When asked if her father would campaign for her in the BMC elections, Geeta replied: "We will determine in due time what unfolds. If he (Arun Gawli) campaigns for us, it will be advantageous."
