Jaipur, Feb 26 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot urged both the Centre and the Rajasthan government to give utmost importance to comprehensive research regarding the alarming increase in unexpected heart attacks among young individuals.

He stated, "Rajasthan effectively managed the Covid crisis. During that time, expert medical professionals recommended that we concentrate on post-Covid research. In response, our government proposed the creation of a Center for Post-Covid Rehabilitation at RUHS in the 2023 budget. However, the current administration has not executed this plan," he remarked.

"Had the center been operational, it could have enabled essential research on post-Covid complications, providing insights into the disturbing rise in sudden heart attacks among youth. Both the Central and state governments must prioritize a thorough investigation into this matter; otherwise, heart disease could evolve into a widespread epidemic soon," he added.

Gehlot's comments were in response to a query posed by Independent MLA Yunus Khan on Tuesday in the Assembly concerning the increase in heart attack-related fatalities following COVID.

"Is it accurate that there has been a surge in heart attack deaths post-COVID? If so, has the government investigated the reasons behind these deaths? If so, please present the findings," Khan questioned.

The government's response confirmed the rise but noted that no study has been conducted thus far.

In his follow-up question, Khan inquired, "Is the silent heart attack the cause of this increase in fatalities?"

The government referred back to its initial answer, stating that the answer to the first question should be considered in this context.

The inquiries were prompted by the tragic incident involving a young athlete from Rajasthan University, Mohit Sharma, who died from a heart attack in Chandigarh during a tournament, with his video circulating on social media.

Aged just 21, Mohit Sharma suffered a heart attack in the midst of a championship match at Chandigarh University in Mohali.

Sharma was a rising boxing star who had traveled from Jaipur to compete. The shocking event unfolded during an intense bout, as Sharma suddenly collapsed while competing in the 85kg category.

On the same day, Mahendra Ranga, Chief Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Jaipur Zone, also passed away after experiencing chest pain, unable to be revived despite urgent medical help.
