Is Ashok Gehlot Calling for a High-Level Investigation into Rising Cardiac Arrests Among Youth?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 19 (NationPress) Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has urged the formation of a high-level scientific committee to scrutinize the rising instances of cardiac arrests and unexpected fatalities among the youth and children in Rajasthan.
Gehlot, a former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, expressed that the alarm raised by Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully and several MLAs in the Assembly about this concerning trend is profoundly serious.
He cautioned that the sudden demise of seemingly healthy young individuals, including medical professionals, is instilling a sense of fear and uncertainty in society.
While referring to global discussions surrounding rare side effects of vaccines, such as thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) linked to AstraZeneca's Covishield, Gehlot mentioned that despite recent reports from ICMR (July 2025) indicating no direct correlation, studies on the impact of Long COVID and vaccines on cardiovascular health are still in progress worldwide.
He emphasized that the government has a duty to alleviate public concerns through comprehensive scientific inquiry.
Gehlot recalled that during his administration, a center for post-COVID rehabilitation was proposed at RUHS in the 2023 state budget to facilitate research on post-COVID health issues.
He lamented that the current government has failed to take substantial measures to operationalize this center.
"The government cannot trivialize this as a regular occurrence. Both state and central governments must prioritize the establishment of a high-level scientific inquiry committee. The public deserves to understand the true reasons behind these fatalities to safeguard future lives," Gehlot stated.
On Wednesday, Jully pointed out that the "incidence of deaths following vaccination has seemingly escalated," highlighting that even young children have collapsed during examinations. While the government asserted that such deaths are commonplace, Jully insisted that the Minister should provide a thorough explanation.
He called for a scientific investigation to ascertain the causes of these deaths and launched a fierce critique of the government's operations.
Jully accused the administration of sidestepping accountability, concealing information, and misleading the public, asserting that despite over two years in power, the government has exacerbated discrepancies instead of enacting reforms.
