Jaipur, April 7 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has unleashed a fierce critique of the Rajasthan government regarding the sluggish pace of construction for Marwar Medical University. In Chapter 16 of his digital series, 'Intezaar Shastra', Gehlot accused the BJP administration of failing to meet the aspirations of the Marwar region, asserting that the ambitious Rs 500 crore project is suffering from a "tortoise pace" of development.

Gehlot emphasized that the original deadline of March 31, 2027, now seems to be little more than a mere “decoration on paper,” attributing this to the government's lack of urgency.

He criticized the ruling government for displaying “shortsightedness” with respect to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and now disregarding the Marwar Medical University initiative as well.

“This is not just negligence; it is a calculated act of step-motherly treatment towards Marwar,” he declared, pointing out that local residents are “weary of waiting” for essential development projects to come to fruition.

Gehlot reminded that the university was proposed during the Congress government's budget for 2023–24 to enhance medical education and research in western Rajasthan, particularly in Jodhpur.

The initiative was intended to serve numerous institutions in the region and uplift healthcare infrastructure. He noted that during the Congress administration from 2018 to 2023, 12 new medical colleges and 29 nursing colleges were announced to bolster healthcare capacity. For the Marwar Medical University, approximately 100 bighas of land were designated along with a budget allocation of Rs 500 crore.

Gehlot stated that the project faced initial delays following the governmental transition. Although construction began under pressure from the Congress, he remarked that the pace of work remains far from adequate.

Currently, the university operates from just three rooms, highlighting the slow advancement on-site.

While the official completion timeline is set for 2027, Gehlot expressed significant skepticism regarding on-time delivery, cautioning that without an increase in momentum, the project risks further setbacks, ultimately leaving the dreams of the Marwar populace unfulfilled.
