Ashok Gehlot Raises Alarm Over IPD Tower Delay at Jaipur Women’s Hospital
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 25 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday unveiled the third installment of his digital series titled “Intezaar Shastra – The Science of Waiting”. In this chapter, he expressed grave concerns regarding the prolonged delay in the construction of the IPD Tower at the Women’s Hospital (Sanganeri Gate) in Jaipur.
Gehlot accused the current BJP government of neglecting this crucial healthcare project, which is left unfinished, thereby affecting vital healthcare infrastructure.
The project, initiated by the Congress government in February 2023, was estimated to cost approximately Rs 117 crore and aims to deliver world-class healthcare services for women.
The planned IPD Tower is poised to significantly improve medical services, including a capacity for 500 beds, a modern 50-bed ICU, and six advanced modular operation theatres.
He emphasized that this project was a pivotal move towards enhancing maternal and women’s healthcare within the state.
Gehlot conveyed his deep concern that this initiative, which was supposed to be completed and made available to the public by August 2025, is now mired in delays and uncertainty.
Challenging the current administration, Gehlot inquired whether women’s healthcare has ceased to be a priority and questioned how much longer the citizens of the state—particularly mothers and sisters—must wait for such essential infrastructure.
In referencing his ongoing digital series, Gehlot asserted that this issue is part of a larger pattern. In the earlier chapters of “Intezaar Shastra”, he had already highlighted the delays in constructing the IPD Tower at SMS Hospital and related projects at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Social Sciences.
Throughout the series, he has consistently pointed out what he describes as a trend of sluggish progress and administrative inaction in finalizing significant public welfare initiatives launched during his administration.
He raised alarms about healthcare infrastructure by questioning the delays in constructing the 1,200-bed IPD Tower at SMS Hospital in the second chapter of his series.
Gehlot noted that this project, envisioned in 2022 and slated for completion in 2024, has now surpassed its deadline by over a year with minimal visible advancement.
He lamented that the hospital was supposed to be operational by 2022; however, it remains incomplete more than a year past its deadline.
Gehlot further claimed that under the BJP’s leadership, not a single floor of the tower has been constructed.
He asserted that the delays in the IPD Tower compromise patient lives, emphasizing that the project was intended to offer relief to thousands of patients visiting the state’s largest government hospital.
