Key Takeaways
Jaipur, April 7 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, fiercely criticized the BJP-led state government on Tuesday regarding the slow progress of the Marwar Medical University. He accused the BJP administration of neglecting the aspirations of the local populace.
In the latest installment of his digital series, “Intezaar Shastra,” Gehlot pointed out that the Rs 500 crore project has suffered due to bureaucratic indifference.
"This is not mere negligence; it is a deliberate act of neglect towards Marwar," Gehlot remarked, asserting that the completion deadline of March 31, 2027, now seems to be nothing more than a decorative promise.
He further criticized the government for its “short-sightedness” towards the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, claiming that this neglect extends to the Marwar Medical University as well.
“The residents are fed up with waiting for essential development projects to materialize,” he stressed.
Gehlot recalled that the university was proposed in the Congress government’s budget for 2023–24 to enhance medical education and research in western Rajasthan, particularly in Jodhpur.
He stated that the project was intended to benefit various institutions in the area and bolster healthcare infrastructure. During his tenure from 2018 to 2023, the Congress government announced 12 new medical colleges and 29 nursing schools to augment healthcare capacity.
For the Marwar Medical University, approximately 100 bighas of land were earmarked, accompanied by a budget allocation of Rs 500 crore.
According to Gehlot, the project encountered initial hurdles following the government transition. Although work resumed later under pressure from Congress, he lamented that progress has been inadequate.
“Currently, the university operates out of merely three rooms,” he noted, highlighting the slow advancement of the project.
Despite the official completion date set for 2027, Gehlot expressed skepticism over the project meeting this timeline. He cautioned that without an acceleration in progress, the project might face further delays, leaving the hopes of Marwar's residents unfulfilled.
