Jaipur, Aug 13 (NationPress) A female student was shot near a coaching centre located in the Manji Ka Hatha area of Rajasthan's Jodhpur on Wednesday, according to officials.
Authorities confirmed that the 21-year-old student, preparing for the Sub-Inspector recruitment exam, suffered a gunshot wound to her elbow.
The victim, Renu Vishnoi from Ramdawas village, was enjoying tea at a shop close to her coaching centre around 6 p.m. when the incident took place.
Initially, police suggested that she may have been injured by a stone rebounding from a vehicle's tire.
However, an X-ray performed at Mathuradas Mathur (MDM) Hospital revealed a bullet lodged in her elbow.
This revelation led police to involve the Forensic Science Laboratory and to review the area’s CCTV footage in an effort to identify the shooter.
Witnesses reported that a retired soldier nearby heard a noise hitting his car’s bonnet just before noticing the injured girl.
Renu was initially transported to Suncity Hospital before being moved to MDM Hospital for further treatment.
Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident on social media, describing it as "extremely worrying, condemnable, and intolerable" while questioning the state’s law and order situation ahead of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's visit to Jodhpur for Independence Day celebrations.
Gehlot stated that he had communicated with the Jodhpur Commissioner, who assured that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon.
Chief Minister Sharma is scheduled to travel to Jodhpur on Thursday to participate in the state-level Independence Day celebrations on Friday.
