Bengaluru, April 23 (NationPress) Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi stated on Wednesday that the Union government is resolute in taking decisive action against those responsible for the Pahalgam attack.

“Prime Minister Modi has already instituted stringent measures throughout the nation, including in the Valley, to combat terrorism. Consequently, there have been no significant terror incidents in the country since 2019. The Central government regards the Pahalgam terrorist attack with utmost seriousness and is committed to a strong response,” declared the Union Minister during a press conference.

He noted that terrorist acts are intended to undermine peace and harm the tourism industry in J&K.

J&K is the jewel of India. Under Prime Minister Modi, the central government has transformed it into a prominent tourist destination. The area, often considered even more stunning than Switzerland, has experienced a notable increase in tourism,” he asserted.

He further claimed that tourism in J&K has undergone remarkable growth over the last five to six years, asserting that the region has become a vital income source for locals.

“Elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies have been conducted without incident. Central government development initiatives have also provoked the ire of terrorists, which is why we have witnessed these tragic incidents,” he explained.

Joshi also announced that all necessary actions have been taken to ensure the safe return of Kannadigas visiting Kashmir following the recent attack.

The minister mentioned he has been in continuous contact with the J&K L-G and relevant officials since Tuesday night to coordinate the secure return of Kannadigas to their hometowns.

“Arrangements have been made to safely return all Kannadigas. A special flight service has been arranged. Currently, flights are being organized to transport tourists to Mumbai and Delhi. Within the next two days, all tourists will be safely returned to their residences,” he affirmed.

He also confirmed that three individuals from Karnataka lost their lives and two others sustained injuries in the attack.

“Plans are in place to transport the remains of the deceased, the injured, their families, and other tourists back to their hometowns,” he stated.

He added that additional flight services have been arranged to facilitate this process.

Numerous individuals from Karnataka were at the Pahalgam tourist site and have expressed their desire to return to the state. In response, a special flight service has been set up to bring them back.

As the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Joshi mentioned that he has issued strict instructions to airlines to prevent ticket prices from rising during this emergency.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and Rajya Sabha Member H.D. Deve Gowda expressed his distress, stating: “What transpired in Pahalgam, in Kashmir, yesterday, has deeply troubled me. I extend my condolences to the families and friends of all those who have lost loved ones.”
