Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 25 (NationPress) The Governor of West Bengal, C.V. Ananda Bose, stated on Wednesday that the issues of violence and corruption have reached alarming levels in the state, likening them to a cancer that needs to be eradicated for the sake of the state’s future prosperity.
These comments were made during a conversation with journalists at the ‘Shanti, Shudhi, Samriddhi’ event at the Indian Museum in Kolkata.
Bose emphasized that without addressing violence and corruption, it would be challenging to uphold the integrity of democratic institutions in West Bengal.
“We must preserve the rich cultural heritage of Bengal by eliminating these dual threats,” the Governor asserted.
He welcomed the Supreme Court's involvement concerning the judicial examination of voter documents flagged under the “logical discrepancy” category during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, expressing hope that this would alleviate current issues.
“I am confident that the system will be corrected and improved systematically. The court is also monitoring the situation,” he stated.
In reference to the Chief Minister's comments about the renaming of Kerala, the Governor pointed out that the matter followed the appropriate constitutional procedures.
“A resolution for the name change was approved by the Kerala Assembly, and the Union government subsequently endorsed it. I support this change of name. The West Bengal Chief Minister's remarks are her personal viewpoint,” he remarked.
While addressing the audience at the event, the Governor advocated for a value-driven, youth-led, and development-focused West Bengal, rooted in discipline, innovation, and cultural pride.
He asserted that such an approach would align with the broader vision of a “Viksit Bengal” and “Viksit Bharat”.
