Thiruvananthapuram, July 4 (NationPress) - Kerala's Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced on Friday that a new lesson detailing the constitutional powers of the Governor will be integrated into Class 10 textbooks for the current academic year.
He stated that these textbooks will soon be distributed to students.
"This lesson will be featured in the second volume of the Social Science textbook, under the chapter titled Democracy: An Indian Experience," explained Sivankutty.
"It will cover the responsibilities, rights, and duties of the Governor, along with discussions on topics such as the Emergency period, the Apex Court's ruling on canceling electoral bonds, and other significant matters," he added.
Last month, Minister Sivankutty had revealed plans to include this lesson in response to a walkout he staged at an official function at the Governor's residence, protesting against a controversial image reminiscent of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) depiction of Bharat Mata.
This announcement follows rising tensions between the Kerala government and Raj Bhavan.
Additionally, during the World Environment Day celebrations, State Agriculture Minister P. Prasad deliberately skipped a Raj Bhavan event upon learning that the same image would be showcased, prompting the state government to quickly set up a parallel event at the Secretariat to avoid confrontation.
The discord between Raj Bhavan and the Kerala government has intensified, especially during the tenure of former Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, who faced numerous conflicts with Kerala Ministers and even Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. At times, even customary pleasantries were neglected among leaders, despite being present on the same platform.
Notably, neither CM Vijayan nor his Cabinet Ministers attended Arif Mohammed Khan's farewell as he departed Kerala for his new role as the Governor of Bihar.
