Government Introduces Internal Audit Portal for Enhanced Transparency
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) On Monday, the government unveiled an innovative system known as the Internal Audit Portal (IAP), designed to boost transparency and accountability by transitioning from conventional manual audit tracking to a real-time, centralized digital platform.
As stated by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), this auditing system facilitates real-time monitoring of audit activities across various departments, thereby enhancing both efficiency and oversight.
A standout feature of this system includes Secretary-level access, enabling senior officials to monitor audit statuses directly and make prompt decisions to resolve any issues, according to government representatives.
Developed by the National Informatics Centre, this portal is part of an initiative to modernize audit processes by substituting manual methods with a centralized digital framework.
“The Internal Audit Portal will bolster oversight and ensure that actions on audit findings are taken promptly,” said the Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, Shailesh Kumar Singh, noting that this effort is anticipated to enhance governance and improve the effectiveness of rural development programs.
The recently introduced portal features four key components: a real-time dashboard, an escalation mechanism, role-based access, and seamless coordination capabilities.
This platform includes a real-time dashboard for tracking audit progress and compliance, as well as an escalation mechanism to identify and address delays.
The ministry also highlighted that the portal offers role-based access to ensure secure data sharing, promoting better coordination between field offices and headquarters through a unified system.
According to the ministry, this portal is expected to minimize compliance gaps, enable continuous monitoring of audit observations, and support data-driven decision-making. By streamlining audit workflows, it aims to enhance the management and tracking of funds allocated for rural development initiatives.
The portal was assessed in the presence of Singh, along with Chief Controller of Accounts Akhilesh Jha and other high-ranking officials.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to digital governance and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen both transparency and accountability in public spending.
