Begusarai (Bihar), Dec 27 (NationPress) Union Minister Giriraj Singh stated on Saturday that the Rajasthan government will not be deterred by the recent violence in Chomu and will persist in its efforts to combat illegal encroachments throughout the state.
The unrest reportedly began on Friday due to the removal of stones and the installation of iron railings and a boundary wall near a religious site adjacent to the main bus stand in Chomu, located in Jaipur.
Officials indicated that an agreement had been made with a local community to clear stones from the roadside.
However, tensions escalated when iron railings were subsequently put in place at the location. When police and administrative personnel arrived around 3 a.m. on Friday to dismantle what they described as an illegal encroachment, a crowd allegedly became aggressive and began throwing stones, resulting in injuries to six police officers.
In response, Singh remarked, "The Rajasthan government is actively addressing illegal encroachments. Just because there is unauthorized construction near a mosque does not mean it will go unaddressed."
"The violent occurrence in that area illustrates that certain individuals wish to assert their dominance, but the government remains unyielding in the face of such displays. The removal of encroachments will proceed as planned," he added.
The atmosphere in Chomu remains tense following the violence sparked by the conflict over the installation of railings outside the religious site.
To curb the spread of misinformation and maintain public order, the local administration has extended the suspension of WhatsApp and social media services for an additional 24 hours, until 7 a.m. on Sunday.
Divisional Commissioner Poonam issued directives to prolong the internet blackout after receiving a report from the Police Commissioner.
This ban, initially set to conclude at 7 a.m. on Saturday, has been extended due to the delicate situation. Officials believe that incorrect information disseminated via social media could further inflame tensions.
As of now, police have apprehended 110 suspects, including 11 women, related to the violence. Arrests were made following the identification of individuals who threw stones, with detentions occurring at their residences. Special Commissioner Rahul Prakash is personally overseeing the investigation.
Authorities have asserted that stringent measures will be taken against anyone found to be disrupting communal harmony.
