New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the disbursement of the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) for farmers in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand on Friday. This particular installment has been prioritized for farmers in these states who have recently endured devastating floods, landslides, and significant crop losses, leading to considerable challenges for farming families.
A sum exceeding Rs 540 crore has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of over 27 lakh farmers, including approximately 2.7 lakh women farmers, across the three states.
This financial assistance is intended to provide timely relief as farmers work to recover from recent disasters.
While announcing the release, Chouhan reiterated the government's unwavering support for farmers in all circumstances. He noted that the Rs 2,000 installment will assist farmers in addressing immediate household expenses, acquiring seeds and fertilizers for the upcoming sowing season, and restoring their confidence to return to farming.
He stressed that this installment represents not just financial support but also a commitment from the government to ensure that every farmer is cared for and supported in their fight against natural disasters.
The Agriculture Minister also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to flood-affected regions earlier this month, where he announced extensive relief measures, including financial aid of Rs 1,500 crore, Rs 1,600 crore, and Rs 1,200 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, respectively. This included compensation for the families of the deceased and injured, as well as support under the PM CARES for Children scheme.
The release of the 21st installment of PM-KISAN builds on these initiatives and underscores the government’s commitment to timely support for farming families in their time of need, according to the minister.
The minister allocated Rs 160.21 crore to 8,01,045 farmers in Himachal Pradesh, Rs 221.98 crore to 11,09,895 farmers in Punjab, and Rs 157.83 crore to 7,89,128 farmers in Uttarakhand.
Since the inception of the scheme on February 24, 2019, the total disbursement under PM-KISAN to these three states has surpassed Rs 13,626 crore.
