New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) As part of the significant ‘75 by 25’ initiative, India has successfully provided treatment to 42.01 million individuals suffering from hypertension (high blood pressure) and 25.27 million with diabetes, according to Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, during a session in Parliament.

In May 2023, the government introduced the "75/25" initiative, with the objective of delivering standardized healthcare to 75 million citizens affected by hypertension and diabetes by the end of December 2025.

In a written statement presented in the Rajya Sabha, Jadhav mentioned that the nation has reached 89.7 percent of its target in managing the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). NCDs, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic lung conditions, diabetes, and hypertension, are responsible for over 70 percent of annual fatalities.

To combat this escalating issue, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched an NCD screening initiative on February 20.

This nationwide campaign, running until March 31, seeks to achieve complete screening for individuals aged 30 years and older. It is taking place across Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities and other healthcare centers within the NP-NCD framework.

Moreover, in response to the growing incidence of NCDs such as hypertension, diabetes, and various cancers, the Ministry initiated the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) back in 2010.

This program employs a comprehensive strategy that focuses on early detection and screening for individuals aged 30 and above, implementing screenings at all tiers of healthcare delivery, and facilitating accurate diagnoses along with affordable treatment options.

Additionally, it offers teleconsultation services, oversees national NCDs through a specialized portal, and coordinates inter-ministerial initiatives to boost NCD awareness and promote healthier lifestyle choices.
