A 24-year-old woman, Deepika, died on 19 May after allegedly jumping from the roof of her in-laws' house in Jalpura village, under the Ecotech-3 police station area of Greater Noida, in what her family alleges was a dowry-driven murder. Her husband, Hrithik, and father-in-law, Manoj, were arrested and subsequently produced before the Surajpur Court, which remanded both to 14 days of judicial custody.

Deepika, daughter of Sanjay of Kudi Khera village under the Badalpur police station area, had married Hrithik, son of Manoj from Jalpura village, approximately 14 months ago. According to her family, the wedding was an elaborate affair in which nearly ₹1 crore was spent, including the gifting of a Fortuner SUV. What began as a lavish celebration, the family alleges, quickly descended into relentless harassment.

Allegations of Torture and Dowry Demands

Deepika's relatives allege she was subjected to continuous mental and physical torture by her in-laws over persistent demands for additional dowry.
