The family of Deepika, a 24-year-old woman who allegedly died in a dowry harassment case in Greater Noida, on Tuesday, 19 May demanded strict action against the accused, including so-called 'bulldozer action' on the in-laws' property — an appeal directed at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The family alleged that Deepika was subjected to continuous physical and mental torture for months over dowry demands before her death.

What the Family Alleges

Deepika's aunt told reporters that the family was informed only that she had 'fallen from the roof' of her in-laws' house, with no further explanation. 'We received information the day before yesterday that she had fallen from the roof. We got a call saying that your daughter has fallen from the roof, but nobody explained how it happened or what exactly took place,' she said.

She alleged that Deepika had been tortured for the last eight months and demanded commensurate justice. 'The way they killed my daughter, I want the same kind of justice. We are devastated and unable to express our pain. We are not satisfied and demand strict action, including bulldozer action against the accused,' she added.

The aunt further alleged that the in-laws had continued to press for additional dowry even after the family had spent nearly ₹1 crore on the wedding and provided a car. She claimed the in-laws subsequently demanded a Fortuner and ₹50 lakh in cash.

Medical Evidence and Uncle's Account

Deepika's uncle alleged that the death appeared pre-planned. He said his brother had met Deepika just a day before the incident and received a call from the in-laws' side immediately after returning home. 'Everything appeared to be pre-planned,' he said.

He further alleged that medical reports showed severe internal injuries. 'We have received the medical report, which shows that several internal organs, including the kidney and liver, were badly damaged. We have photographs and other evidence,' he said, adding that the family was demanding justice from Chief Minister Adityanath.

The Incident and Arrests

The incident took place in Jalpura village under the Ecotech-3 police station area of Greater Noida, where Deepika allegedly died after falling from the roof of her in-laws' house. Following her death, police arrested her husband Hrithik and father-in-law Manoj on Monday. Both were produced before the Surajpur Court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

Deepika, daughter of Sanjay from Kudi Khera village under the Badalpur police station area, had married Hrithik approximately 14 months ago. Her family described the wedding as a lavish ceremony but alleged that harassment over dowry began shortly after.

Family's Dissatisfaction with Police Action

The family expressed dissatisfaction with the pace and scope of the police investigation, noting that only two accused had been arrested thus far. 'We are not satisfied with the police action because only two accused have been arrested,' the uncle said. The family has appealed for a broader crackdown and intervention from the state's highest office.

The case has reignited concerns about dowry-related violence in Uttar Pradesh, where such incidents continue to be reported despite legal prohibitions. Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement on the family's demands for additional arrests or action on the property.
