Gurugram, July 10 (NationPress) In a disturbing turn of events regarding the murder case of a tennis player in Gurugram, authorities have revealed that the suspect took the life of his daughter due to ridicule over his reliance on her financial success.
An official from the Gurugram Police noted that Deepak Yadav (49) had endured mockery for several days, which prompted him to pressure his daughter to close her academy. He was frequently accused of living off her earnings.
On the morning of the incident, Radhika’s uncle Kuldeep notified the police that they both resided together. Kuldeep mentioned that he was occupied with some rental work, just as his brother Deepak was.
“I was at my house around 10:30 a.m. when I suddenly heard a loud noise. I rushed upstairs to my brother's apartment, where I found my niece, Radhika Yadav, in the kitchen and a revolver lying in the drawing room,” Kuldeep recounted.
“My son Piyush and I took Radhika to Asia Moringo Hospital in Sector 56, Gurugram, for medical attention. Unfortunately, the doctor confirmed her death upon arrival,” he added.
“Radhika had suffered gunshot wounds. She was a well-known tennis player with numerous accolades to her name. I am devastated and cannot comprehend the motive behind her murder. At the time, only my brother Deepak, my sister-in-law Manju, and Radhika were in the house—my nephew Dheeraj was absent. The revolver found was a licensed 32-bore firearm owned by my brother,” Kuldeep stated.
Kuldeep expressed his belief that Deepak was responsible for Radhika's death.
In response to the report, police initiated an investigation. Experts collected fingerprints from the firearm used in the incident. Upon inspection, the revolver was revealed to contain five cartridges, one of which was live. The police secured the weapon, the live cartridge, blood samples, and swabs as evidence.
The accused, Deepak Yadav, was interrogated thoroughly. He acknowledged that his daughter Radhika was a national-level tennis player with a history of winning numerous trophies. Recently, she had sustained a shoulder injury and was not actively participating in competitions. She had opened an academy to coach aspiring young athletes.
“While traveling to Wazirabad village for milk, I faced taunts implying I was living off my daughter's success. This deeply affected me. Some even questioned her character. I asked her to shut down her tennis academy, but she refused. This constant stress and humiliation weighed heavily on me. In a moment of rage, I retrieved my licensed revolver and shot her three times in the back while she was in the kitchen,” Deepak Yadav confessed during questioning.
He further explained that during the incident, only he, his wife Manju, and Radhika were present, while Dheeraj was at a property agency.
The police repeatedly urged Manju Yadav to give a written statement, but she declined, claiming she was unwell and unaware of the events leading to her daughter's murder. She insisted Radhika was of good character and could not fathom why Deepak would harm her.
Kuldeep, who transported Radhika to the hospital, was asked to provide his statement, which he did.
“Based on the collected statements, my assessment, crime scene analysis, physical evidence, and the interrogation of Deepak Yadav, it has been determined that he has committed offenses under sections 103(1) and 27(3) of the relevant law,” he concluded.
