Noida encounter: 2 murder accused shot, 2 minors held in Sector-63 case
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Two accused in the murder of a 20-year-old youth in Noida were injured in a police encounter on Sunday night, while two other suspects — both minors — were detained during a subsequent combing operation, police said. The operation, conducted by the Sector-63 Police Station team in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, marks a significant breakthrough in the case registered following the death of Deepak, son of Suraj Singh, a resident of Chotpur Colony.
Background: The Murder That Triggered the Operation
On 17 May, Deepak, aged 20, was allegedly attacked with knives by a group of youths over a monetary dispute near Sector-63. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. A case was immediately registered at Sector-63 Police Station, and following his death, Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — pertaining to murder — was added to the charges.
How the Encounter Unfolded
During a late-night checking drive on the green belt service road between the Bahalolpur underpass and FNG Road, police spotted four youths riding two motorcycles approaching the area. When signalled to stop, the accused allegedly turned their motorcycles and attempted to flee. Police gave chase, and according to officials, when the accused realised they were surrounded, they allegedly opened fire on the police team with the intention to kill. Officers retaliated in self-defence, during which two accused sustained gunshot injuries.
Accused Identified, Weapons Recovered
The two injured accused have been identified as Aman, son of Veer Singh, a resident of Bulandshahr, and Sandeep Kumar, son of Sanjay Singh, also of Bulandshahr. Both were reportedly living as tenants in Chotpur Colony at the time of their arrest. They were admitted to hospital for treatment following the encounter.
From the possession of the accused, police recovered three illegal country-made pistols, two empty cartridges, four live cartridges, one knife, and two motorcycles allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
Minors Detained, Investigation Ongoing
The two remaining suspects were found to be juveniles in conflict with the law and were taken into custody during the combing operation that followed the encounter. Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway and that efforts are being made to establish the criminal history of all the accused. This case reflects a pattern of youth-on-youth violence over financial disputes in the Noida region, with authorities under pressure to act swiftly given the victim's age and the number of suspects involved.
