Ahmedabad, March 17 (NationPress) The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Gujarat has taken significant measures against establishments breaching waste management regulations by sealing 14 of them, including several well-known brands.

This operation was executed by the AMC's Solid Waste Management Department on Saturday, following thorough inspections in the Sarkhej and Jodhpur wards. Numerous outlets were found to be improperly disposing of waste, leading to a public nuisance. The authorities identified 11 residential units and 114 commercial establishments flouting waste disposal guidelines.

A total of 125 units received notices, and fines amounting to Rs 1.50 lakh were collected. Legal actions were instigated against businesses that dumped garbage on public roads and dealt with banned plastic items.

Several prominent establishments were also subjected to penalties during this initiative.

This crackdown is part of a larger trend, as similar actions have occurred in other cities across Gujarat. In Surat, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) recently imposed steep fines on 85 eateries and retail businesses for improper waste disposal and the use of banned plastic products, collecting fines totaling Rs 3.2 lakh, while sealing 10 establishments temporarily.

In Rajkot, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) carried out surprise inspections in commercial zones, sealing 20 establishments for non-compliance with sanitation regulations and issuing fines totaling Rs 2 lakh.

Similarly, in Vadodara, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) penalized 45 food outlets and residential societies for failing to segregate waste and for disposing of garbage in unauthorized areas, collecting Rs 2.5 lakh in penalties.

In recent enforcement actions, the FDCA seized over 4,200 kg of adulterated and substandard food products, including edible oils, dairy items, and spices, from various manufacturing facilities and retail outlets in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot. Noteworthy incidents involved the confiscation of synthetic milk and counterfeit ghee from illegal production units on the outskirts of Vadodara.

Moreover, in Surat, authorities uncovered a significant operation where turmeric powder was mixed with hazardous dyes to enhance its color.

The FDCA has intensified its monitoring of the production and sale of sweets and snacks, particularly during festive seasons when demand peaks. In one instance, health officials raided a popular sweet shop in Ahmedabad, discovering that the establishment used non-food-grade colors and stale ingredients, posing serious health risks to consumers. The shop was sealed, and the owner faced legal repercussions under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
