Gandhinagar, March 8 (NationPress) The Gujarat government has sanctioned road development projects totaling Rs 1,185 crore to enhance connectivity in the Surat Economic Region (SER). Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel characterized this initiative as a crucial component of Gujarat's vision for “Viksit Gujarat@2047”.

The approved projects encompass 24 upgrades spanning a total distance of 383 kilometers across various districts within the SER, including Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and Dang.

As stated by the state government, these regions collectively contribute over 35 percent to Gujarat's overall economic progress.

During the announcement, the Chief Minister noted that this initiative aligns with the national vision of “Viksit Bharat@2047” as proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on bolstering infrastructure-led economic growth in southern Gujarat.

“In our roadmap for a Viksit Gujarat@2047, we are committed to realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat@2047 during this Amrit Kaal,” Patel remarked.

The road enhancement initiatives are integral to the regional economic master plans aimed at developing six growth hubs across the state, fostering balanced and comprehensive development.

These plans were devised by the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT), established to facilitate long-term, results-driven development focused on infrastructure, innovation, human resources, and institutions.

Officials have identified the Surat Economic Region as a key growth hub for South Gujarat within these frameworks.

By approving these initial projects worth Rs 1,185 crore, the Chief Minister reiterated the government's pledge to fulfill its commitments.

Patel highlighted that Gujarat, significantly contributing to the country's economic growth, is determined to lead in achieving national goals.

The state has embraced the objective of “Earning Well – Living Well”, aiming to strengthen its economy through sustained growth.

Officials indicated that the upgrades will enhance connectivity between major industrial hubs and Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) areas in districts such as Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Bharuch, and Navsari.

Enhanced road conditions are expected to boost logistical efficiency and promote smoother transportation of goods and labor.

The government noted that this development will benefit sectors such as textiles, chemicals, petrochemicals, and the diamond industry, which hold significant stakes in the region.

Industries like fisheries, operations linked to Hazira Port, sugar manufacturing, Sumul Dairy, papad production units, and mining ventures are anticipated to gain from improved connectivity.

Access to important GIDC estates such as Kadod, Kadodara, Jolwa, Mangrol, Kosamba, and Tarsad will also be enhanced, which officials believe could stimulate further industrial growth.

The upgraded road network is also projected to facilitate the transportation of agricultural products, allowing farmers to move their crops and goods to markets more swiftly and efficiently, thereby providing additional backing to the agricultural sector.

Officials mentioned that tourism in South Gujarat is likely to flourish due to improved road access.

Religious landmarks such as Siddhnath Mahadev, Shabari Dham, Pandav Gufa, Anjani Kund, and the Parsi Agiary at Sanjan are expected to be more accessible to visitors.

Tourist attractions and eco-tourism sites like Saputara, Wilson Hills, and the forests of Mahal are also set to receive better access.

The government anticipates that these road enhancements will further support emerging industries in the region, including semiconductors, green hydrogen, and logistics, alongside traditional sectors such as diamonds, petrochemicals, chemicals, textiles, and fisheries.

According to the state government, the Surat Economic Region is being positioned as a strategic growth engine for Gujarat, targeting the establishment of a $3.5 trillion state economy by 2047.

This region is expected to contribute more than 35 percent to Gujarat’s Gross State Domestic Product under this ambitious vision.
