How is the Gujarat Government Expanding Ahmedabad City Police Jurisdiction?

Ahmedabad, May 15 (NationPress) The Gujarat government has officially broadened the jurisdiction of the Ahmedabad City Police Commissionerate, now including vast areas of Ahmedabad Rural and Gandhinagar districts.

This initiative is designed to enhance policing and the delivery of public services in rapidly evolving urban and peri-urban zones, particularly surrounding the Sardar Patel Ring Road.

The expansion was formalized through a notification from the State Home Department, following a proposal from the Director General of Police (DGP) and receiving governmental approval on May 3.

The newly defined jurisdiction covers several critical roadways, including sections of the Sardar Patel Ring Road and its adjacent service lanes, which were previously managed by rural police.

Significant suburban regions now integrated into the Ahmedabad City Police framework include parts of Adalaj, Dabhoda, Bopal, Changodar, Aslali, and the limits of Vivekanandnagar police station.

Consequently, city police stations such as Sola, Bodakdev, Sarkhej, Chandkheda, Naroda, Narol, Airport, and Vatva Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) have experienced an extension of their boundaries.

For example, the Bodakdev police station will now cover areas previously under the jurisdiction of Bopal police station, including regions from Hebatpur Cut on the Ring Road to Shilaj Bridge, incorporating both service roads, Shilaj Circle, and the railway line beneath the bridge.

Likewise, the Sola police station has expanded to include Gota, Hebatpur, and Khodiyar—previously covered by Bopal and Adalaj police stations—encompassing the route from Vaishnodevi Circle to SGVP and KD Hospitals.

The Chandkheda police station will now manage important northern areas such as Tragad, Khoraj, Tapovan Circle, Zundal Circle, Apollo Circle, and Koteshwar village, all of which were formerly under Adalaj police jurisdiction.

Additionally, the Sarkhej police station's area of responsibility has increased to include parts of Changodar and Aslali, covering the Sanathal Toll Plaza, Sanathal Circle, Bakrol, and nearby toll locations.

In the southeast, the segment between Ropda Bridge and the Expressway has been reassigned from the Vivekanandnagar police station to the Vatva GIDC police station.

Authorities indicate that this restructuring aims to provide faster police response times, bolster security, and seamlessly integrate expanding urban areas into the city’s law enforcement framework.

As Ahmedabad continues to rapidly expand along significant arterial routes, particularly around the Ring Road, this realignment is viewed as a proactive measure to enhance law and order in peripheral regions experiencing population and infrastructure growth.
