Aravalli (Gujarat), March 31 (NationPress) In the core of northern Gujarat, renowned for its vast potato fields, a farmer's creativity has established a new standard in agricultural innovation. Anilbhai Patel, a farmer from Bhensawada village in Dhansura taluka of Aravalli district, has engineered a unique harvester that aims to revolutionize the potato harvesting process in the area.

After three years of unyielding dedication, inspired by the ethos of 'Vocal for Local' and 'Make in India', Patel has built this machine utilizing his own resources and relentless effort.

Motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for self-sufficiency, Patel sought a solution to a persistent problem faced by potato farmers—labour shortages and crop degradation due to excessive heat during the harvesting period.

"Potato farmers in Gujarat and across India frequently face labour shortages, particularly during the peak summer months when harvesting is crucial," Patel shared with IANS.

"Often, our crops decay in the fields because they are not harvested in a timely manner. This issue drove me to invent a harvester that reduces reliance on manual labour and ensures efficient potato gathering."

Patel’s creation, which required approximately Rs 10 lakh to develop, is engineered to minimize human involvement while maximizing operational efficiency. The harvester operates in conjunction with a tractor, extracting potatoes from the soil and directly transferring them onto a trailer. This not only lessens the dependency on manual labour but also reduces the potatoes' exposure to heat, thereby preserving their weight and quality.

What distinguishes this harvester is its capability to maintain the quality of the potatoes during the harvesting process. Unlike conventional methods, where potatoes may spoil due to extended sun exposure and rough handling, his machine guarantees swift collection and damage-free transportation.

"The concept was straightforward yet groundbreaking. Why depend on costly foreign machinery when we can develop something indigenous that caters to our farmers' requirements? This harvester will soon be accessible to other farmers, and I aspire for it to be a transformative asset for potato farming in Gujarat and beyond," Patel expressed.
