The Gujarat government stepped up flood relief and restoration operations across multiple affected districts on Saturday, 25 July, as senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders reviewed recovery efforts, damaged roads were repaired, blocked highways were reopened and damage assessment surveys accelerated following days of relentless heavy rainfall.

Senior Leaders Review Relief Operations

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil visited the Navsari District Disaster Control Room to take stock of ongoing operations. District Collector Manish Gurwani briefed them on multi-departmental rescue coordination, the evacuation of residents to safer locations, conditions at relief shelters, and the provision of food, drinking water, medicines and healthcare services.

Officials said that with floodwaters receding from low-lying areas, the administration had accelerated surveys to assess damage to crops, houses, public property and other assets — so that eligible residents could receive financial assistance at the earliest.

CM Patel Acknowledges Volunteers and Media

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in a post on social media platform X, publicly acknowledged the contribution of volunteers, charitable organisations and community leaders in supporting government agencies during the emergency.

'In the situation that has arisen due to heavy rainfall in various districts of Gujarat, volunteers, charitable organisations and community leaders have joined hands shoulder to shoulder with the government machinery in carrying out relief and rescue operations. The spirit of service shown by all of you is exemplary and deserves appreciation,' Chief Minister Patel said.

He also commended journalists for disseminating timely and accurate information during the crisis. 'Media personnel are playing an outstanding role in helping citizens avoid hardship by providing timely and accurate information. During this time of crisis, media personnel have also joined the government in serving the public. I commend the positive work being carried out by media personnel. Along with discharging your duties, please also take care of yourselves,' he added.

Road Repairs and Highway Restorations Across Districts

In Tapi district, the approach road and causeway at Dhangdhar in Dolvan taluka, damaged by floodwaters, was restored within a few hours after the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Panchayat Department deployed JCB machinery, personnel and construction materials on an emergency basis.

In Morbi district, however, one side of the causeway on the Mayurnagar-Raysangpar road in Halvad taluka was washed away after water was released from Brahmani-2 Dam. Authorities immediately closed the route to all vehicular traffic as a precaution.

In Surendranagar district, traffic was restored on the Surendranagar-Dhrangadhra Highway after a stranded trailer was removed. Officials advised heavy vehicles to follow traffic management instructions and directed smaller vehicles to use the Sitapur-Prathugadh road as an alternative. In Jamnagar district, a fallen tree on the Dhrol-Latipur-Tankara State Highway was cleared by the Jamjodhpur Sub-Division, allowing traffic to resume.

Emergency Teams Battle Landslides in Dang

In Dang district, the Roads and Buildings Department cleared landslides and road blockages caused by heavy rainfall within hours. The department deployed 10 emergency teams, 12 JCB machines, five tractors and more than 150 workers operating round the clock to restore connectivity. Authorities advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution during periods of heavy rain.

Cash Dole Survey Begins in Navsari

Gandevi Municipality in Navsari district has launched a door-to-door cash dole survey in affected areas, with special municipal teams collecting data from households. Officials said financial assistance would be distributed to eligible beneficiaries in accordance with prescribed rules once the survey is completed. This comes amid broader state-level efforts to ensure that relief reaches flood-affected residents without delay.

With restoration work still under way across several districts, the pace of recovery in the coming days will determine how quickly normal life resumes in Gujarat's flood-hit communities.
