Gandhinagar, March 10 (NationPress) In response to a question in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, Gujarat’s Energy Minister Kanu Desai revealed that a total of 4,167 individuals in Ahmedabad district and 3,267 individuals in Anand district have obtained electricity connections through the Jhupda Electrification Scheme over the last two years.

The state government has earmarked Rs 215.51 lakh for Ahmedabad district and Rs 346.48 lakh for Anand district to support this initiative. Providing a detailed breakdown, the minister highlighted that in Ahmedabad district, beneficiaries from Ahmedabad City, Bavla, Daskroi, Detroj-Rampura, Dhandhuka, Dholera, Dholka, Mandal, Sanand, and Viramgam—a total of 10 talukas—have received electricity connections.

Likewise, in Anand district, beneficiaries from Anand, Anklav, Borsad, Khambhat, Petlad, Sojitra, Tarapur, and Umreth—a total of 8 talukas—have been granted electricity. The minister confirmed that there are no pending applications in these districts under the scheme.

Expanding on the scheme, Desai stated that disadvantaged beneficiaries from all communities across Gujarat are eligible for household electricity connections. This includes individuals with an annual income of up to Rs 1,50,000 in urban areas and Rs 1,20,000 in rural settings.

Furthermore, the minister pointed out that the Jhupda Electrification Scheme has also been effectively executed in Kheda, Surendranagar, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana districts, bringing electricity to countless households.

This information was disclosed in a written response during the Assembly session. The state has a strong power generation capacity of over 43,000 MW, derived from thermal, renewable, and hydropower initiatives.

Gujarat stands as a frontrunner in renewable energy, boasting over 10,000 MW of installed solar power capacity and 9,000 MW of wind power capacity, positioning it as one of the leading states in India for clean energy production.

Through the Saubhagya Yojana and Jhupda Electrification Scheme, Gujarat has successfully achieved 100 percent household electrification, benefiting thousands of families, including over 7,400 beneficiaries in Ahmedabad and Anand districts alone in the last two years.

The state government has also made substantial investments to enhance the transmission and distribution network, lowering transmission losses to about 12 percent, one of the lowest rates in the country.

Gujarat’s 24x7 Power for All initiative guarantees uninterrupted electricity supply to industries, businesses, and households. The state features over 1.6 lakh km of transmission lines and a well-established grid network that facilitates seamless electricity distribution. Through the Kisan Suryoday Yojana, Gujarat offers a dedicated daytime power supply to farmers, boosting agricultural productivity.
