Gandhinagar, Feb 16 (NationPress) The Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate projects exceeding Rs 250 crore for cooperative institutions and Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) during the national-level “Manthan Baithak” of the cooperative sector scheduled for February 17.

This significant conference, taking place in Gandhinagar, will see participation from cooperation ministers across various States and Union Territories, alongside senior officials at the secretary level.

According to Jitu Vaghani, Gujarat's Cooperation Minister, the inauguration of projects worth more than Rs 250 crore will be a major highlight of the meeting.

The inaugural session will host several dignitaries, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.

Also expected to attend are Union Ministers of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal and Murlidhar Mohol.

Vaghani mentioned that the Manthan Baithak will focus on establishing 2 lakh new multipurpose primary agricultural credit societies (MPACS) and various dairy and fisheries cooperatives nationwide.

Discussions will also include the development of modern warehouses as part of a nationwide grain storage initiative, the financial fortification of cooperative sugar mills, the challenges confronting cooperative banks, the creation of a National Cooperative Database, and the computerization of institutions.

A special report highlighting best practices adopted by various states, along with insights on the International Year of Cooperatives-2025, will also be unveiled at the event.

Initiatives by the Ministry of Cooperation and transformative measures seen in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh will be showcased.

During the second session, Gujarat will present its “Cooperation Among the Cooperatives” initiative, which has led to the opening of 33 lakh new bank accounts, issuance of RuPay debit cards to 19 lakh livestock rearers, linkage of 22 lakh farmers to Kisan Credit Cards, and the operation of 12,624 micro ATMs facilitating approximately 22 lakh digital transactions monthly.

An exhibition featuring over 20 leading cooperative institutions, including NDDB, NFDB, NCDC, IFFCO, NCEL, NCOL, BBSSL, Amul (GCMMF), Banas Dairy, Gujcomasol, and Gujarat State Co-operative Bank, will also be inaugurated at the venue prior to the conference.
