PM Modi to address 1 crore youth in anti-drug campaign on 2 August
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually address more than 1 crore young people across India on 2 August as the Centre launches the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan', a nationwide anti-drug awareness campaign spanning approximately 10,000 locations through physical and virtual participation. The initiative is being coordinated by MY Bharat, operating under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Gujarat's State-Level Programme
In Gujarat, the flagship state event will be held at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar at 10:30 am. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is scheduled to attend and interact directly with participants. Details were shared by MY Bharat Gujarat State Director Sachin Sharma at a press briefing on 1 August.
More than 500 participants are expected at the Gandhinagar venue, including students from universities and colleges, MY Bharat volunteers, youth club members, and representatives of youth organisations.
Campaign Design and Activities
District Youth Officer Varsha Rogha said the campaign has been structured to promote drug-free living among young people through engagement rather than instruction. 'With the primary objective of creating awareness against drug addiction, eight different games and competitions, including dance, music and drawing, will be organised for young people so that maximum participation can be encouraged through art and creativity,' she said.
Participants across the country will collectively take a pledge against drug abuse during the event. An e-Pledge facility is already live on the MY Bharat portal, enabling online participation ahead of the formal launch.
100-Week Sunday Campaign to Follow
The event will also mark the launch of a 100-week nationwide 'Sunday Jan Bhagidari Campaign', under which regular sports, fitness, cultural activities, and meditation programmes will be organised to sustain community awareness beyond the single-day drive. This signals the Centre's intent to embed anti-drug messaging into a long-term public engagement framework rather than a one-off event.
Broader Vision and Organisers' Appeal
In Gujarat, the programme is being jointly organised by MY Bharat, the district administration, and NFSU. Organisers have appealed to educational institutions, youth organisations, and citizens to participate actively, framing the campaign as part of the broader 'Viksit Bharat @2047' vision. This comes amid sustained government focus on youth-centric policy as India positions its demographic dividend as a core development asset.
