Ahmedabad, March 2 (NationPress) On Monday, Gujarat University celebrated the opening of its Russian Language and Culture Centre, attended by esteemed university officials, academics, and diplomats from the Embassy of Russia in India.
Situated within the Language-Literature Bhavan, this centre aims to foster academic partnerships and cultural exchanges between India and Russia.
It is envisioned as a specialized hub for exploring the Russian language, literature, history, and cultural practices, offering resources for language education, cultural activities, academic dialogues, and collaborative projects for students, researchers, and educators.
Dr. Nutan Kotak, a Professor in the Department of English at Gujarat University, expressed that the centre is intended to cultivate structured collaborations with Russian universities and educational institutions.
“The Russian Language and Culture Centre has been established within the School of Languages to enhance cooperation with Russian academic entities and to enrich cultural exchanges between our nations,” she stated in an interview with IANS.
She further mentioned, “The centre will offer a diverse range of courses focused on Russian language and culture, facilitating exchange programs for both faculty and students between India and Russia.”
Dr. Elena Remizova, Counsellor at the Russian Embassy and Head of Rossotrudnichestvo in India, highlighted the opening as a pivotal moment in bilateral relations.
In her conversation with IANS, she remarked, “This is a notable event that promotes Russian culture within India. We are delighted that this centre has been established at such a significant institution.”
She noted that this initiative will extend its reach beyond the university, benefiting not just Gujarat University students but also learners from outside.
“We will offer extensive resources, including study materials and support for language courses,” she added.
Dr. Remizova described the centre as a platform for deeper interactions, stating, “It will act as a bridge connecting our societies and reinforcing our cultural ties. In today’s unpredictable context, the friendship between India and Russia is enduring and strong. Russia has consistently supported India on global platforms, and this centre will further nurture the bonds of friendship between our nations.”
University officials emphasized that this initiative underscores Gujarat University’s commitment to internationalization and intercultural dialogue through organized academic alliances.
