Ahmedabad, July 31 (NationPress) The Gujarat government has provided health insurance coverage to over 77,000 Divyang (persons with disabilities) in the past five years through the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme.
This initiative has been executed with a total expenditure of Rs 191.56 lakh, offering eligible beneficiaries annual coverage of up to Rs 1 lakh, according to official data released on Thursday.
The scheme is designed to support individuals with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, and multiple disabilities, aiming to alleviate the financial strain of medical care for some of the state’s most vulnerable inhabitants.
Under the Niramaya scheme, coverage includes hospitalization, surgeries, OPD consultations, medications, and transportation costs associated with medical treatment. Notably, the scheme is inclusive across all age groups and does not mandate any pre-medical tests for enrollment, ensuring widespread accessibility.
Families with a monthly income of up to Rs 15,000 can qualify for coverage with a monthly premium of Rs 250 subsidized by the state government. Those with a family income exceeding Rs 15,000 receive the same benefits with a premium of Rs 500 per month, also covered by the state.
The policy allows treatment at any recognized hospital, further minimizing barriers to care.
