Gandhinagar, Nov 28 (NationPress) The Department of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities has unveiled an exciting initiative titled the "Coastal Exploration Programme" aimed at youth throughout Gujarat. This program invites individuals aged between 15 to 35 to submit their applications by December 15, 2025.
From the entire state, 300 young individuals will be chosen: 100 from the general category based in Gir-Somnath, 100 from the Scheduled Castes in Jamnagar, and 100 from the Scheduled Tribes located in Navsari.
This yearly initiative seeks to provide participants with direct exposure to various coastal areas, marine resources, local industries, and the day-to-day lives, challenges, arts, and cultures of coastal communities. The aim is to inspire them to engage in sea-related activities.
Set to take place over 10 days in December this year, the selection process will be overseen by a screening committee. Chosen participants will receive accommodations, meals, travel reimbursement for their journey to and from the program site, and a participation certificate issued by the state government.
To be eligible, candidates must be aged 15 to 35 as of December 31, 2025. They are required to obtain the application form from their local Youth and Cultural Activities Office and submit it with necessary details, including their name, address, mobile number, date of birth, educational qualifications, occupation, any involvement in NCC, mountaineering, or sports, a medical fitness certificate, consent from a parent or guardian, a recent passport-size photograph, identity proof, a caste certificate if applicable, and details of any prior participation in the program.
Applicants from the general category should submit their forms at the Gir-Somnath district office, those from the Scheduled Caste at the Jamnagar office, and Scheduled Tribe candidates at the Navsari office by December 15, 2025, as stated by the Commissioner of Youth Services and Cultural Activities.
Gujarat's extensive coastal area is of immense strategic, economic, and ecological significance, contributing to the identity and prosperity of the state.
It houses some of the busiest ports in the nation, like Kandla and Mundra, which stimulate maritime trade and industrial expansion, while its fishing communities support a dynamic coastal economy.
This region boasts rich marine biodiversity, including mangroves, coral ecosystems, and endangered species, making it crucial for environmental conservation.
Historically, the coast has served as a channel for migration, trade, and cultural exchange, significantly shaping Gujarat’s heritage. Its shoreline is essential for national security, blue economy initiatives, and future renewable energy opportunities, particularly in wind and tidal power.
