Gurugram: Rs 54 Crore Multi-Storey Parking Project Yet to Open

Gurugram, Dec 9 (NationPress) The first multi-storey parking facility built at a cost of Rs 54 crore by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) in Sadar Bazar was completed four months back.
Despite the completion of this parking lot, it remains non-operational and has not yet been transferred to the MCG by the private contractor.
MCG officials stated that the contractor has postponed the deadline for the construction work four times, yet the remaining tasks are still unfinished.
According to MCG representatives, the contractor now claims that all work will be finalized by December 31. Initially, the contractor had promised to finish the parking facilities by April.
In 2018, the municipal body devised a plan to construct three multi-storey parking facilities within the city. To date, only one of these projects has been successfully completed.
"More than four months have passed since the construction was wrapped up, yet the contractor continuously extends the deadline for the remaining work. The contractor has now asserted that the project will be completed by December 31 and handed over to the corporation," remarked an MCG official.
MCG officials indicated that the delays stem from the lack of an external gate and an electricity connection. Initially, the parking was scheduled to open in January, then April, and subsequently, the completion date was pushed to November, which has also not been met. The contractor now insists on a completion date of December 31.
This parking facility will accommodate 206 cars and 190 bikes. Once operational, it will alleviate parking challenges for visitors to the historic Sadar Bazar in the district, according to officials.
Following this facility at Sohna Chowk, the civic body is also looking to establish a multi-storey parking area near Kaman Sarai at Mahavir Chowk. Plans include provisions for both parking and retail spaces.
Furthermore, a proposal was made to develop parking on land owned by the PWD department at Post Office Chowk, but both projects are currently stalled in administrative processes.
"The construction of the multi-storey parking is finished. Only minor tasks, including the electricity connection, remain. The contractor has requested until December 31. The parking lot is expected to commence operations next year," stated Manoj Yadav, Chief Engineer of MCG Gurugram.
