Guwahati, Feb 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, officially launched the upgradation initiative at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport on Wednesday, aimed at improving passenger convenience, experience, and overall travel ease, according to officials.

An official revealed that the revamped terminal will see an increase in entry lanes from 8 to 14. Additionally, departure lanes have been expanded from 3 to 4, complemented by the addition of four new DigiYatra Gates.

The security check-in area has been enlarged from 300 to 450 sq. m., featuring enhanced screening queues and new furnishings. A 140-meter architectural wall has been constructed, along with 300 sq. m. of new gardens. The updated terminal will also include upgraded retail, dining, and recreational amenities to ensure a more enjoyable travel experience,” the release further stated.

Sarma noted that the entire project was meticulously planned and executed within two months to promote the LGBI airport and provide a welcoming atmosphere for all delegates attending Advantage Assam 2.0.

He expressed optimism that the construction of the new terminal at the LGBI Airport will reach completion by the end of this year.

Once fully operational, the new terminal is expected to position the LGBI Airport as a crucial hub connecting the South East Asian nations.

A senior official from Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) remarked: “The renovated terminal has been thoughtfully designed with a focus on passenger experience. Our goal is to create a modern, efficient facility that meets the changing demands of air travelers. As the Gateway to the Northeast, the upgraded T1 will facilitate regional development in terms of economy, education, and employment.

Moreover, as passenger traffic continues to grow, GIAL is dedicated to ensuring secure and convenient travel experiences.
