According to police, the robbery had taken place five days prior to the arrests. The gang intercepted the canter on the Balwapur-Brijghat road, held the driver and helper hostage, and subsequently abandoned them in the Amroha area before fleeing with the vehicle and its consignment of clothes.
Who Are the Accused
Police identified two of the arrested individuals as Javed and Azim, describing them as notorious criminals with multiple cases registered against them across Delhi, Moradabad, Sambhal, and Hapur. These cases reportedly include charges related to murder, theft, and violations of the Arms Act.
Separate Ghaziabad Encounter on September 24
In a related development, Kavinagar Police in Ghaziabad had earlier, on 24 September, arrested a suspected vehicle thief following a similar encounter in which the accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. A pistol, cartridges, a gold coin, and a scooter were recovered from him.
The accused, identified as Imran alias Makkhi, approximately 20 years old, a resident of Loheya Nagar under the Adarsh Nagar Police Station area of Delhi, was apprehended after a CCTV-led investigation linked him to the 11 September snatching of a mangalsutra containing around five grams of gold from a woman in Govindpuram, Kavinagar. He was taken to the Joint District Hospital, Sanjay Nagar, Ghaziabad for treatment after the encounter. Both cases remain under investigation as police assess further gang linkages.
