New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) Following a recent appeal by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat for social harmony throughout India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed its support on Thursday, emphasizing that society should advance in a manner that embodies India’s rich tradition of inclusivity and unity.
During his address on Wednesday, Bhagwat highlighted that the nation is a shared space for all its inhabitants, urging citizens to transcend barriers of caste, wealth, and language, and to regard “everyone as part of their own family”.
This statement comes in the wake of rising public anger following the tragic incident involving Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, who was reportedly murdered in Dehradun amid allegations of racial abuse.
In light of the outrage, Bhagwat reiterated the necessity for social cohesion and equality, asserting that India’s identity is deeply rooted in harmony.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, responding to Bhagwat’s remarks, stated to IANS that the RSS leader had indeed captured the right sentiment.
“He expressed the truth. His consistent focus on social harmony unites us, and we are progressing in a way that reflects the essence of Indian culture, embracing all along the journey,” Pathak remarked.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal noted that Bhagwat’s message highlights the inclusive nature of what it means to be Indian.
In conversation with IANS, he affirmed, “Certainly, anyone who resides in India and chants 'Vande Mataram' is Indian and embodies the true essence of a Hindu. What respected Mohan Bhagwat articulated—that India should remain an eternal nation, a Hindu nation, and that anyone who considers India as their mother is Indian, irrespective of their faith—is absolutely true.”
The Shiv Sena also voiced its support for Bhagwat’s statement, underscoring the importance of maintaining inclusivity and unity.
Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC told IANS that India has historically represented a beacon of social harmony.
“It’s accurate to say that India symbolizes social harmony and unity. Every citizen, regardless of caste, creed, gender, or language, shares a collective objective. Caste should merely serve as a means to benefit society and the nation,” she stated.
Shaina NC further noted that Bhagwat emphasized the need for inclusiveness in daily life.
“When Mohan Bhagwat offered this example, he also remarked that whether it concerns a temple, a water source, or a cremation ground, all should be viewed through the lens of inclusivity and unity, especially since India is a Hindu nation,” she explained.
In addition, Bhagwat stressed that genuine harmony starts with the elimination of discrimination and the guarantee of equal access to public and sacred spaces.
“The entire nation is for everyone, and this spirit embodies true social harmony,” he insisted, asserting that facilities like temples, water bodies, and cremation grounds should be accessible to all Hindus without exceptions.
