Haryana Becomes India's Pioneer in MSP Procurement for All 24 Crops

Chandigarh, Dec 23 (NationPress) Haryana has made a remarkable achievement by being the first state to procure all 24 crops at the minimum support price (MSP) established by the Union government, as stated by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana on Monday.

During the celebration of Kisan Divas and the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh, the minister conveyed appreciation to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for issuing the notification that guarantees comprehensive MSP procurement for all 24 crops.

Rana highlighted that the government, under the guidance of Chief Minister Saini, has displayed a firm dedication to promoting the welfare of farmers. He regarded the decision to procure all 24 crops at the MSP as a crucial advancement towards ensuring the financial stability of the farmers.

The newly released notification broadens the list of procured crops to include ragi, soybean, nigerseed, safflower, barley, maize, jowar, jute, copra, and summer moong, in addition to the crops already under procurement, which are paddy, bajra, moong, urd, arhar, til, cotton, groundnut, wheat, mustard, gram, masur, sunflower, and sugarcane.

Rana stressed that this initiative is designed to furnish farmers with a consistent and profitable pricing framework, shielding them from market fluctuations and potential financial setbacks.

“This initiative is anticipated to encourage the adoption of modern agricultural practices and enhance productivity, which will lead to increased incomes for farmers,” he remarked.

The MSP framework, determined annually by the Central Government, is based on recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) to guarantee that farmers receive a profit margin above their production expenses. This system remains a crucial mechanism for safeguarding the financial interests of farmers.

“This landmark decision reinforces Haryana’s commitment to protecting the interests of its farmers and establishes a commendable benchmark for other parts of the country,” added Minister Rana.
