He highlighted that Udham Singh avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919 by assassinating Michael O'Dwyer, the then Lieutenant Governor of Punjab.
"Udham Singh was executed in London on July 31, 1940. His courageous act serves as a perpetual source of inspiration and a symbol of nationalism for our country," the Chief Minister stated during a public gathering in Sunam, the birthplace of Shaheed Udham Singh, located in Punjab's Sangrur district.
Prior to this, the Chief Minister laid floral tributes at the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial. He also planted a sapling at the site and visited the Udham Singh Museum, where he explored photographs, letters, and memorabilia related to the martyr, recording his reflections in the visitor's book.
Later, CM Saini met with the family of Shaheed Udham Singh, accompanied by Hardayal Singh, who presented him with a memorandum outlining their demands.
He then participated in a public meeting hosted by BJP leader Daaman Bajwa, where he received a warm welcome from attendees. CM Saini expressed that it was a privilege to visit the birthplace of Shaheed Udham Singh.
He recounted the tragic events of the Baisakhi gathering at Jallianwala Bagh, where General Dyer ordered gunfire on defenseless civilians, leading to the deaths of thousands. It was during this moment that Udham Singh promised to take revenge for the massacre.
After years of determination, on April 13, 1940, Udham Singh executed Michael O'Dwyer on British soil, avenging the horrors of April 13, 1919, and ultimately sacrificed his life for the country.
The revolutionary spirit of Udham Singh embodies unparalleled courage, sacrifice, and resolve.
"Thanks to the countless sacrifices made by heroes like Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh, we enjoy the freedom of India today," the Chief Minister remarked.
He added, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to realizing the vision of our martyrs for a prosperous India. We must unite to fulfill the aspirations of our freedom fighters for an independent and thriving nation."
In a conversation with reporters, CM Saini expressed pride in paying homage to Shaheed Udham Singh at his birthplace and meeting his family.
Responding to a query, he criticized the Punjab government for failing to keep its promises to the populace. "The Punjab government has only provided illusions to the people. Just as they misled the residents of Delhi, who are now aware of their true nature, the citizens of Punjab are beginning to understand the reality as well," he remarked.
