What Developments Did Haryana CM Unveil at the Historic Rakhigarhi Site?

Chandigarh, May 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, inaugurated three significant development projects worth Rs 20 crore at the Museum and Interpretation Centre located in Rakhigarhi, a site rich in the history of the Indus Valley Civilisation. These initiatives include a rest house, a hostel, and a cafeteria. Esteemed guests present at the event included Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, state Tourism Minister Arvind Sharma, and Public Works and Public Health Engineering Minister Gangwa.

During the event, the Chief Minister and the Union Minister unveiled a booklet detailing the significance of the Rakhigarhi site. The Chief Minister emphasized that the new rest house, cafeteria, and hostel are designed to offer superior amenities for tourists and students visiting from both India and abroad. The rest house features 17 rooms equipped with modern conveniences, while the hostel includes 13 dormitories for student accommodation, along with a dining area.

Additionally, Chief Minister Saini and Union Minister Shekhawat explored an exhibition organized by the Department of Archaeology and Museums, showcasing various artefacts from the Harappan era, such as children’s toys, terracotta cartwheels, lamps, beads, necklaces, and more.

Following the inauguration, a meeting was held by the Chief Minister and the Union Minister to discuss the development strategy for Rakhigarhi as a key tourism hub. They directed the relevant departments to accelerate the construction of the Rakhigarhi Museum and Interpretation Centre.

Furthermore, both leaders instructed that protective sheds be erected at archaeological sites to facilitate year-round excavation work. They stressed the necessity of integrating the museum with archaeological sites and devising a thorough plan for lighting, parking, and other tourist amenities.

Union Minister Shekhawat informed the media that ongoing excavations in Rakhigarhi since the 1960s have unveiled substantial evidence of a highly advanced human civilization dating back around 8,000 years. These findings lend strong support to the assertion that India is home to one of the oldest civilizations in the world.

He expressed his satisfaction with the Haryana government’s efforts to establish Rakhigarhi as a prominent destination for tourism and research for archaeologists and historians. The Union Minister also commended the quality and planning of the initiatives undertaken by the state. He noted that another important archaeological site in Hisar, known as Agroha, is currently undergoing excavation.
