New Delhi, Sep 10 (NationPress) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Wednesday that the government is currently involved in discussions with the US regarding a bilateral trade agreement.
This statement followed a positive dialogue between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning trade negotiations and the enhancement of bilateral relations.
During his speech at the FICCI Leads Summit, Goyal noted that trade discussions are also in progress with the European Union and New Zealand.
He also indicated that a trade deal with Oman is expected to be finalized shortly.
Earlier in the day, in a noteworthy development aimed at alleviating tensions, President Trump revealed that his administration has resumed trade negotiations with India.
"I am excited to share that India and the United States of America are moving forward with discussions to tackle the trade barriers between our two nations," he posted on Truth Social.
On Tuesday, Trump referred to Modi as a “very good friend” and expressed his eagerness to connect with him in the upcoming weeks.
"I am confident that we will reach a successful conclusion that benefits both our great nations," he added.
In response to Trump’s comments, PM Modi articulated that these discussions will unlock the limitless potential of the India-US partnership.
"India and the US share a close friendship and are natural partners. I believe our trade negotiations will unlock the vast potential of the India-US collaboration. Our teams are dedicated to wrapping up these discussions promptly. I am also excited to converse with President Trump, as we work towards securing a brighter, more prosperous future for our citizens," PM Modi posted on X.
In a White House press briefing last week, Trump praised Modi as a “great Prime Minister” and affirmed: “I'll always be friends with him.”
He described the relationship between the United States and India as unique, assuring that there is nothing to worry about.
Modi responded to Trump’s remarks shortly after, stating that he fully agrees with the President's sentiments and appreciates them.
