Guwahati, Sep 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Wednesday that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was formed by the state Cabinet earlier this year to investigate the alleged anti-India actions of a Pakistani individual, has discovered shocking details that suggest a broader conspiracy aimed at the nation.

In a message on X, the Chief Minister stated that the SIT, established on February 17, 2025, was assigned to look into the involvement of one Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his associates. Sarma revealed that the investigation has unveiled unsettling information that transcends individual actions and points to a larger scheme to compromise India’s integrity.

“The SIT has also confirmed the participation of a British national—who is married to an Indian Member of Parliament—in the illicit activities related to Ali Tauqeer Sheikh,” Sarma noted.

The Chief Minister further asserted that the SIT’s findings have shed light on how the Pakistan Ministry of Interior facilitated the travel of an active MP from Assam to Pakistan.

“The role of Pakistan’s governmental apparatus in enabling such interactions is deeply troubling,” he continued.

Sarma indicated that the Assam government will thoroughly review the SIT report before submitting it to the state Cabinet.

“After the Cabinet discusses the matter, the gathered information will be made public,” he affirmed.

Previously, Sarma mentioned that the investigation into the Pakistan connections of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his wife, Elizabeth Coleburn, could be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the SIT delivers its final report.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the limitations of the current SIT investigation regarding Gogoi and his wife's alleged ties to Pakistan.

CM Sarma emphasized that the Assam SIT operates under a narrow mandate, especially in accessing communication records.

“The Assam SIT has a very limited scope. It cannot access telephonic records or connections older than two years,” he stated.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the larger implications of the case—concerning citizenship and suspected links to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)—fall under the purview of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

He noted that central investigative agencies like the NIA have the ability to retrieve information dating back to 20102011.

Sarma clarified that the state government has not yet made a request to the NIA to take over the investigation.

“No such request has been made so far. We will reach a final decision after the SIT submits its report,” he concluded.
