Guwahati, Sep 15 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma escalated his critique of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday, emphasizing that the investigation led by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) involves a broader scope than just Gogoi's family.
During a significant public gathering at Gurufela in Gossaigaon, CM Sarma highlighted that the SIT is currently looking into the involvement of 38 individuals in relation to this case, countering Congress's claims that only Gogoi's wife is under scrutiny.
"The SIT is addressing this matter with the highest level of diligence. The investigation is not confined to Gaurav Gogoi's wife -- a total of 38 individuals are being examined. Once the investigation concludes, the full report will be publicly available for all to review the individuals the SIT has investigated," the Chief Minister stated.
He also promised that the SIT's findings would be accessible on the state's official website, ensuring that Gogoi's remarks would also be factored in before any information is released.
Significantly, the SIT was formed by the Assam Cabinet earlier this year to investigate alleged anti-India activities linked to a Pakistani national and has uncovered "startling facts" indicative of a broader conspiracy against the nation, as CM Sarma remarked following the SIT's submission of its report on September 10.
The Chief Minister elaborated that the SIT was established on February 17, 2025, with the objective of investigating the activities of one Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his associates.
According to CM Sarma, the investigation has revealed unsettling details that extend beyond individual actions, suggesting a larger scheme aimed at compromising India's sovereignty.
"The SIT has also identified the involvement of a British national -- married to an Indian MP -- in the illicit activities associated with Ali Tauqeer Sheikh," CM Sarma noted.
The Chief Minister further asserted that the SIT's probe has disclosed how the Pakistan Interior Ministry facilitated the visit of a current MP from Assam to Pakistan.
"The role of Pakistan's official machinery in facilitating such interactions raises serious concerns," he added.
Chief Minister Sarma stated that the Assam government will thoroughly analyze the SIT report before presenting it to the state Cabinet.
"Once the Cabinet discusses the matter, the findings from the inquiry will be made public," he concluded.
