Hyderabad, Dec 21 (NationPress) Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy addressed a letter to Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, questioning the unfulfilled six guarantees in the Congress manifesto from the Telangana Assembly elections, even after two years of the party being in power in the state.

Reddy inquired if Sonia Gandhi had reviewed the status of these promises when Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited her in Delhi to present the 'Telangana Rising - 2047 Vision Document'.

In his letter, penned in Telugu and translated into English, Reddy referenced the event organized by the Telangana government titled 'Telangana Rising - 2047', noting that it was reported that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally delivered the vision document to Sonia Gandhi during his recent trip to the national capital.

"I am writing to you regarding the 'Telangana Rising - 2047' program, where it has been widely reported that the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri Revanth Reddy, visited Delhi and presented the 'Telangana Rising - 2047 Vision Document' to you," Reddy stated.

He further mentioned that reports indicated that Sonia Gandhi praised the government's performance over its two years and commended the Chief Minister's vision for the state's development, extending her best wishes for Telangana's future.

However, Reddy expressed that this appreciation raised a "serious and unavoidable question". He recalled that during the 2023 Telangana Assembly election campaign, Sonia Gandhi had spoken at a large public gathering organized by the Congress party on September 17 in Tukkuguda, near Hyderabad.

"At that event, you not only launched the Congress party's election manifesto titled 'Abhayahastam' but also assured the people of Telangana that the six guarantees would be implemented immediately once the Congress party assumed power," Reddy noted in the letter.

The Union Minister questioned whether, after the Congress secured victory and completed two full years in office, the CPP chief had ever reviewed or inquired about the status of the manifesto that she, along with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other party leaders, had promised the people of Telangana.

"Did you even bring up this issue during your recent meeting with the Chief Minister?" he asked.

Reddy added that the congratulations given to Revanth Reddy for completing two years in power implied that either Sonia Gandhi was unaware of the situation regarding the six guarantees' implementation or that no serious effort had been made to evaluate if the promises made to the public had been fulfilled.

He further alleged that rather than honoring its electoral commitments, the Telangana government "seems to be misleading the populace".

"Under the guise of development, it has attempted to introduce a new narrative through a vision document, while previous guarantees remain unfulfilled. Alarmingly, the party leadership appears satisfied with self-congratulation rather than demanding accountability," Reddy stated.

The Union Minister also questioned whether the Congress party was "now abandoning the guarantees made during the elections".

"Have the '420 promises' from the election manifesto been discarded in the Musi River, or quietly buried within Gandhi Bhavan? The people of Telangana deserve a transparent and honest response," he added.

Reddy emphasized that two years after taking office, the Congress government must first prove its integrity by fulfilling the commitments already made, asserting that new visions and promises should not come at the expense of "unfulfilled guarantees".

"Otherwise, the 'Abhayahastam (hand of assurance)' once extended to the people will inevitably turn into a 'Bhasmasura Hasta (hand of destruction)', fueled by public anger, and will sweep the government out of power," he warned.

Reddy urged Sonia Gandhi to clarify the Congress party's stance on the guarantees promised to farmers, women, unemployed youth, students, Dalits, tribals, and backward classes.

"The people of Telangana are observant and waiting," he concluded.

"This betrayal of public trust will not go unanswered. If the Congress government continues to fail in delivering on its promises, the people of Telangana will respond decisively in the future by withdrawing their support and delivering a fitting lesson," he added.

Point of View

It is imperative to observe the ongoing political dynamics in Telangana. The concerns raised by Union Minister Kishan Reddy reflect a broader issue of accountability in governance. The electorate's trust is paramount, and elected officials must remain vigilant in fulfilling their commitments to avoid disenchantment among the masses. The situation warrants close monitoring as it unfolds.
