Hearing Scheduled for BJP Legislators' Request for Special Assembly Session to Present CAG Reports in Delhi HC

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear a request on Tuesday submitted by several BJP legislators, asking the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly to arrange a special session dedicated to the presentation of the CAG reports.
According to the causelist available on the Delhi High Court's website, a bench led by Justice Sanjeev Narula will address the case on December 24.
Earlier today, this request from the Opposition MLAs was brought up before Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Vibhu Bakhru, who instructed that the plea be included in the routine agenda.
The CAG reports, which have faced considerable delays, reportedly discuss the alleged shortcomings of the city government concerning the previously retracted excise policy, the anti-pollution initiative, and various state financial issues that could potentially embarrass the AAP-led administration just ahead of the Assembly elections.
The recent request from BJP MLAs Vijender Gupta, Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, and Jitender Mahajan indicated that a special session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly has not been convened by the Speaker, despite a prior statement made to the Delhi High Court in earlier litigation.
"This constitutes a clear breach of the statement/commitment provided by the Senior Counsel representing the GNCTD before this Hon'ble Court, for which the petitioners reserve their rights to file for contempt of court if deemed necessary," it mentioned.
Last week, the Delhi HC concluded the BJP legislators' request that aimed to direct the city government to send the CAG reports to the Lt. Governor (L-G), after being informed that L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena has endorsed the 14 CAG reports sent by Chief Minister Atishi.
The court acknowledged that Chief Minister Atishi, who also serves as the Finance Minister, would submit these approved reports to the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly within 2-3 days, who will subsequently make a timely decision on convening a special session to present the CAG reports.
The petition articulated that the CAG acts as a "constitutional watchdog" established to provide independent and reliable assurance to the public, the legislature, and the executive regarding the effective and efficient collection and utilization of public funds.
