BJP Urges CM Atishi to Convene Assembly Within 48 Hours for CAG Reports

New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) Accusing the AAP administration of ridiculing constitutional institutions, the BJP’s Leader of Opposition, Vijender Gupta, on Tuesday insisted that the Assembly session be notified within 48 hours to present 14 CAG reports.

The significantly overdue CAG reports allegedly address the AAP government's shortcomings regarding the now-repealed excise policy, expenditures aimed at combating air pollution, and various state financial issues that could potentially embarrass the Atishi government right before the Assembly session.

During a press conference, Gupta stated that the BJP would escalate the matter to the streets and approach the High Court once more if AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal does not publicly release the CAG reports, which are public records, within the next 48 hours.

This will serve as the final blow to the AAP if Kejriwal or CM Atishi fail to convene a session of the Delhi Assembly to present the CAG reports,” Gupta remarked, adding that any delay in their presentation would reinforce suspicions regarding financial irregularities linked to the Kejriwal administration.

The LoP asserted that the BJP would persist in demanding an Assembly session despite the AAP government’s attempts to postpone the issue and conceal the CAG reports.

The government is engaging in a conspiracy to obstruct the tabling of the CAG reports. We will approach the High Court once again if Chief Minister Atishi does not adhere to the court's directive,” he stated.

Gupta emphasized that the tabling of the CAG reports is unrelated to the Model Code of Conduct, which is anticipated to be enacted following the announcement of Assembly election dates, expected imminently.

BJP leader Satya Ranjan, representing the party in the High Court, noted that according to the constitutional framework, particularly under Chapter 5 of the CAG, the government auditor is obliged to uphold transparency and accountability.

“The reports concerning a government's financial activities are vital for maintaining institutional integrity,” he commented.

“The High Court has authorized us to approach it again if no resolution is reached – within 2-3 days starting Monday - on the Assembly session for tabling the CAG report,” Ranjan added.

Since June 23, 2022, the CAG has issued 14 reports reflecting Delhi's financial status, yet the state government remains inactive, preventing these reports from being presented in the Assembly.

He also commended Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena’s swift approval of the CAG reports prior to returning them to CM Atishi for presentation to the Speaker ahead of their tabling in the Assembly.
