Chennai, Jan 25 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chennai has announced a prediction of significant rainfall across nine districts in Tamil Nadu this Sunday, urging residents to exercise caution as unstable weather patterns are likely to continue for the next two days.

An official statement from the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre attributes this rainfall surge to an easterly atmospheric wave over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Consequently, various regions in Tamil Nadu are expected to experience rain for a minimum of two days.

The IMD has specifically highlighted that heavy to very heavy rainfall could occur throughout the day in districts including Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Salem, and Namakkal. Moreover, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, and Ramanathapuram districts are also anticipated to face intense rainfall during the day.

Meteorological experts have warned that the rain may bring thunderstorms and lightning to isolated areas, which could heighten the risk of localized flooding, waterlogging in low-lying regions, and disruptions to road traffic.

Farmers and residents in susceptible areas are advised to adopt precautionary measures and stay updated with official advisories.

For Chennai and its suburbs, the weather department predicts moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across various locations throughout the day. While widespread flooding is not currently expected, intermittent showers may lead to temporary inconveniences, especially during peak traffic hours.

Looking ahead, the IMD foresees moderate rainfall persisting across Tamil Nadu on Monday, though the rainfall intensity may gradually diminish in some interior areas.

No fog conditions have been predicted anywhere in the state during this timeframe.

Interestingly, despite the rainfall, the lack of fog and cloud breaks during early morning hours is likely to result in increased night-time temperatures.

The IMD projects that minimum temperatures across Tamil Nadu could rise by as much as 3 degrees Celsius above normal, resulting in comparatively warmer nights.

Officials have urged fishermen to stay vigilant and monitor weather bulletins, as sea conditions in parts of the Bay of Bengal may remain unsettled. The public is advised to remain alert and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities as the weather evolves.
