Chennai, May 14 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a warning for significant rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu, especially in the Ghat regions of Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, and various interior districts, effective until Friday (May 16).
While these regions are anticipated to find relief from the sweltering heat, other areas in the state will continue to suffer from severe summer conditions.
On Tuesday, maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius were recorded at seven weather stations, including Madurai, Vellore, Erode, Karur, Palayamkottai, and Tiruchy.
The Madurai airport once again logged the highest temperature in the state, hitting 41 degrees Celsius for the second day in a row.
In contrast, weather patterns are becoming suitable for the arrival of the southwest monsoon.
The RMC indicates that the monsoon is expected to advance over sections of the south Arabian Sea, the Maldives, and the Comorin area, as well as parts of the south Bay of Bengal within the next 3-4 days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously forecasted that the southwest monsoon would reach Kerala by May 27.
A yellow alert has been issued for multiple districts due to the expected occurrence of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h.
Districts such as Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Vellore, Namakkal, and Karur are predicted to experience heavy rainfall on Thursday.
On Friday, heavy showers are anticipated in Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and the Karaikal region. Meanwhile, in Chennai, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures likely to fluctuate between 38 and 39 degrees Celsius.
Authorities have alerted residents in rain-prone areas to stay vigilant and adopt necessary precautions, particularly in hilly and low-lying zones where localized flooding or landslides could occur. Farmers and travelers are also encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions.
